A little corner in English on a French language website!

Braille

The Mac displays Braille just as soon as you connect up a refreshable Braille display that is compatible with it, whether USB or Bluetooth. However, the encoding displayed is American English Braille, which is not very readable for people who speak other languages.
So, to take full advantage of Braille output, download the appropriate CeciMac Braille Tables for your level of Mac OS X!

The languages available are: Arabic, Danish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and US Unicode. Others are under development, and if you need a language that is not yet provided, please contact us.

Resources are available in several languages for users of VoiceOver, of the Mac, of VisioVoice, and of all other kinds of assistive technology. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

• Brazilian Portuguese:

  • Cool For The Blind run by Søren Jensen and Thomas Byskov Dalgaard.
    A large store of information, especially on the "blog & podcast" page.
• English:
  • Josh de Lioncourt's site: Mac-cessibility Network
    A great many accessibility reports, access news, a podcast, and a database of useful sites, as well as resources for the iPhone.
  • I Can Work This Thing
    Information from a visually-impaired perspective on all sorts of equipment and systems, including the Mac with VoiceOver, providing software user guides as well.
• French:
  • The CeciMac site (of course!).
    All kinds of helpful information in French, as well as being the home of Multilingual Braille for the Mac.
  • The Cecitek site, run by Yannick Plassiard and Olivier Bert.
    Provides information on the Mac and VoiceOver, as well as on Windows, and hosts the first podcast in French to cover VoiceOver.
  • Dominique Lemaitre's iPhoneDV.org, a site devoted to the iPhone and VoiceOver in French.
